Why is she crying???

OK, clearly in this picture we can see why she is crying (check out Owen and the paci in his mouth) but this crying thing has gotten to be a bit of a regular occurrence. As I type this Mia is in her room screaming. Normally, I put her in her crib and she goes right to sleep. She may wake up in the middle of the night a few times but she normally cries herself back to sleep in a minute or two. Ever since the winds and even before (which I totally understand the winds are scary as they literally shook our house and tore things from our house) she has been having a tough time going to sleep. I do the normal bedtime things and then I lay her down and she immediately begins to cry. I usually let her cry for a bit (10 min) and then go in and sit with her for a few and then lay her down again. I then walk out and she starts screaming again which is where I am at the present time. I have consoled her 2 times and I don't know what else to do so I am letting her scream. At first I thought she was scared so I went in and consoled her whenever she cried but now I think she has gotten use to it and I cant get her to stop. So, I let her cry. I know it is horrible but I don't know what else to do and I NEED some sleep. I feel like I have been walking around like a zombie for a week and I just need to sleep. So I let her cry. I hope I can stay strong and not go in and get her. We'll see!!!

  1. I don't think anybody knows why they cry, but it will become a habit and you will be doing as she wants instead of her doing as you want. It a subconscious manipulaton; something we all do. As long as you develop a routine and stick to it, she will adjust. It may take longer than you like, but it's worth it in the end.

  2. You are doing the right thing! What I think happened is she was used to you coming in when she cried (because of the wind) and now she knows if she cries, you will come. It happens right after they get over being sick too - they realize when they cry, you come and it takes a few days to get things back to normal. Hang in there! IT IS SO TOUGH!

  3. I remember those times - not fun! It shouldn't take long for her to get back to her old routine if you stick to it. I know it's not fun. I let mine cry too. In the long run, it makes things so much easier.

  4. Christy,
You're doing the right thing. It is SO hard to let them cry...but unless you don't want to sleep for a very long time...letting her cry it out is the only way to go. When you've done all you know to do...that's all you can do. I know it's hard...but it's worth it. You are teaching her either way. I'll be praying for you! Hope things are doing better there with the fires. Do you know anything about your parents cabin? We saw Lake Arrowhead on the news last night and thought of you. Hope things are better!! Have a great day!!

  7. That's not an easy thing to go through. I'm such a softy that I get them. Don't take my advice though, my 2 year old comes in every night and sleeps with us. I know everyone says it's a no no, but we still do it.

  8. That picture is too funny!

Oooh, so sorry about the sleeping and crying thing.. I have no real words of wisdom, just hugs of support.

Hannah is a restless sleeper (she moves literally all night long) - I can hear the rustle through the monitor, I have learned not to go in at first because then the crying does start and well, I fall into the softie range right now:)

    Kepp up the good momming!
