Babysitting Success!!!!

Well tonight was the night we decided to leave Mia with a babysitter for the first time EVER!!! I was soooo nervous but I knew it was the perfect scenario since we were only going to be a few miles away and the boys were there and it was my favorite babysitter etc. About a half hour before we were to leave I got cold feet and had to call Laila to get reassurance. Laila did her good friend job of reassuring me and off Kev and I went to dinner. During dinner I kept looking at my phone and checking to make sure it was on because it was not ringing. About half way through dinner I look down and my phone is ringing and it said "home". I quickly answered expecting to hear Mia bawling in the background and a teary babysitter begging me to come pick her up but it was only Owen asking if they could go to the park. I asked about Mia and he said she was fine. I didn't want to be a freak about it so I just hung up and finished dinner. On the way home I called our babysitter and asked how Mia was doing and she said great. She had finished a nap about an hour after the babysitter got there and then she fed her dinner and then they walked to the park and now they were just playing. No tears-- NOTHING!!! I was so happy and relieved at the news. In a secret pitiful way I kind of wanted her to shed a small tear to show how unbelievably attached she is to us but I guess this was good news!! We walked through the door and Mia was on the floor playing with our babysitter and when she saw us she screamed "MAMA" and started to crawl over to us. It was so great to see her so happy and playing so well with the babysitter. I think the whole thing really worked well because the boys were there with her but also I think it was just the right time. We have had her for almost 5 months and she was ready. I don't know if I was but she was. I really think it was harder on me than it was on her. She did great and I feel like we could easily leave her again. That is great as Kev and I DESPERATELY need some time alone!! So, with this success brings our next challenge--- CHURCH NURSERY TOMORROW!!! Last time she lasted 35 minutes. How long do you think she will last this time? 40? 45? I'm guessing 45 min but we will see. Maybe with her new found autonomy she will make it through the whole service. I hope so but the boys are not in the nursery with her to keep her entertained- so we will see. I will keep you all posted!! Success

  1. I think alot of the reason she did so well, is she was in her own surroundings so she felt alot more secure than she does in the church nursery.

Hope this moring is a success for you.

  3. Mommy24treasures,

I agree! I think a lot of it was that Mia was in her house with her stuff with her brothers to entertain her. Your right, the nursery is not as comfy an environment. We will see!!!

  4. I'm so glad that she did well with the babysitter. It's important for the two of you to have time away together and also for her to learn that you will always come back. Hopefully church nursery went well today.

  5. It took a few tries at the church nursery for us. It wasn't long before our spicy girl was running towards the nursery waving bye bye. Of course, we are in the ministry and are at church a lot, so she got used to it quickly. I do remember the first time we left her with a babysitter (my parents!) and I checked my phone several times and then called home to make sure she was ok.

  7. I think you're right...having her brothers there is a huge help. If Sadie has either Sophie or Silas with her...she's GREAT! If you take them out of the equation...then "Houston...we have a problem!" We're trying to work on this. I'm thrilled she's attached to her brother and sister...but I don't want her to develop an unhealthy co-dependent relationship. It's SO awesome though about Mia. I know you and Kevin are thrilled to have some time to yourself. Can't wait to hear how she did in church today!!! Thinking about you!

  8. Sounds like Mia is doing great! Congratulations on getting some together time with your hubby. We haven't yet gone out alone, but Hope stays with Grandma and Grandpa during the day while we work. She does great. I don't know if I'm ready to leave her for an evening. Like you said...harder on Mom than baby. :)

Fun to check in with you - Beth
