GOTCHA DAY!!!

This is Laila posting - I got an email from Christy saying that she can't even open her blog now:(:( She was very upset and is hoping to be able to get back on, but she asked if I would post the pictures from the day. I am also including part of the email she sent describing how everything went.

Here's her email:

We went to the Civil affairs office at 9:30am and Mr. Die and Finley were late. They finally arrived about an hour late and Finley was exceptionally clingy to him and would not come to anyone else. She began to cry when she saw us and kept it up if we came close. Finally as paperwork was underway she got better but still would not come to us. After paperwork was done Mr. Die had to leave and us too and she freaked. Cried so hard it was heartwrenching. The whole car ride she sobbed and then attached herself to our guide Maggie. We went up to the room and Kev and Maggie went to grab some food and the whole time they were gone she sobbed and begged for Aieyi-- auntie- who she thought was Maggie. It was so sad. She wanted little to do with me at all but when a lady came in to change a sheet, she came and sat in my lap. Kev came back without Maggie which I was happy about and she immediately put her arms up and cried BABA!!! Kevin picked her up and she has been smitten with him since. She has not cried since then. I skyped with Cass and the boys and during that time she opened up so much to Kevin that it was truly amazing!!! She is doing so well. She is now playing, laughing and having a great time -- with Kevin!!! She is not sure about me yet but is warming up. She literally is all over Kev and it is adorable!! I am so thankful for that. I know she will warm up eventually but for now I am so thankful she is able to find comfort with Kevin. She has yet to take a nap but we may still try. She is sooooo smart. She jabbers away in Chinese and we just smile. She grabs our hands and takes us to the potty or wherever she needs. It is so cute and I am thrilled!! The day is only half over but we know she loves her baba and that she is as smart as a whip and is very orderly and neat. She throws her trash away and likes things in their place-- love this gir!!!

And here are the pics she sent with the email - no explanation included, but at least we get an idea:)

  1. Yeah! I could not wait for pictures! She sounds like she is doing just what is normal. I am glad she is finding comfort in your husbands arms. Don't worry Christy! Not long until she is a Mama's girl too!

  2. Finley is just gorgeous and I loved seeing the photos!

Christy, I experienced the same reactions with Jake that you are experiencing with Finley. Jake was all over BaBa. I received smiles, hugs and hand holding, but if BaBa was around, it was all about BaBa. Honestly, it was like this: "O.K. BaBa is out of the room so I'll hold onto you, but OH, BaBa is back. See Ya!" It was a relief for us that Jake was accepting one of us right away, and we knew it wouldn't be long before he would be all over the both of us.

    Can't wait to hear more.

    Take care.

  3. Christy, we brought our 3 yr old daughter home last July, she would not come to me the whole 2 weeks, it had to be Baba the entire time, the only thing she would let me do was bathe her, she loved her bath. She finally warmed up to me on the plane ride home and now she is a mama's girl. I just love following your blog !!! Congratulations to you & Kevin !!!!

  4. That is so awesome!!! Congratulations!!! She is beautiful & we had the same situation with Graysen. He was very attached to the previous director of the orphanage & kept screaming Mama at her. It doesn't take long for them to change! Happy Gotcha Day!!

  6. So happy to see you all together! Our daughter attached to my husband in China and wanted nothing to do with me. I was his lowly assistant as far as she was concerned. Of course now that we are home she and I are BFF'S and attached at the hip! Our daughter has mild SB as well and has no affects so far from her meningeocele that was repaired in China. She had surgery in Nov to revise the scar. I'll be following your journey....

  7. Same with Caroline. I used to joke that in her eyes I was the woman who accompanied her daddy to China (paraphrasing JFK's quote). It was disappointing, but not devastating. It will change.

  10. Christy,
So glad that you have Finley now! She is so lovely. With each day she'll warm up to you more. There were several moms in our group, who the child didn't want anything to do with them...until they got home from China and then everything was fine. She sounds so much like Levi...he is very orderly and clean ;) Bless you! Praying that your week just gets better and better! Can you believe your wait is finally over!
