Wow is our girl opening up!!! She is coming out of her shell like crazy and is just giggles and smiles. She seems to really love her mommy and daddy and even says mama and baba-- not sure if in reference to us but she does say both words clearly. She also babbles/ talks non stop. She is such a happy baby and such a major cuddler. She likes to be held all of the time and even on the floor practicing her walking, she just wants to cross the floor to get up in your arms. She will literally take a few steps to Kev or I and then proceed to climb up our legs and then bury her face in our neck or chest. She is such a cuddle bug and WE LOVE IT!!!!
Today has been a pretty lazy day. Its been raining all day so we have not gone out at all. We are going to venture out for dinner but it is still raining so we will see how far we get. We had breakfast which most of these pictures were taken at. She ate a ton and loved everything. There has not been one thing that she has refused. She just ate an almost whole banana! After breakfast we realized she was tired so we headed back to the room to skype with the kids. Right after we skyped she was fussy so we laid her down around 10:30am and she slept till 2pm. She seems to nap well and she slept well last night. She did not wake up once and slept from about 10pm (she wanted to stay up and play) till about 6:30am. Not bad but we knew she was super tired so we let her take a long nap today. After nap we have just been playing in the room. Im getting a taste of cabin fever and I need to venture out so hopefully once I am done posting this we can go out-- even if we get wet.
She for sure can take steps on her own but we have noticed she does not have a lot of body/ core strength and likes to be on her back playing with her feet and hands. We think she must have spent a lot of time in a crib on her back but clearly must have had plenty of stimulation because she really is pretty much on target for a 14 month old. She is smart. She is inquisitive and interested in not only something but also wants to see how it works and will attempt to take things apart to see how they work. When she is analyzing things she furrows her brow like she is concentrating. She catches onto things super fast and remembers how things work. She also has AMAZING fine motor control with very long fingers. It is so funny when she is snacking she will eat a ton of snacks but the last cheerio or goldfish or whatever, she will keep in her hand and take tiny little bites or pick pieces off it but always leave a little bit in her hand-- totally funny and kind of gross. She is a neat eater. She doesn't get very gross and does not drool like Mia did.
She has super tan feet and a super tan face but the rest of her body is pretty pale. We were told that the foster villages are farming based and the foster parents often strap the babies on their backs so their feet and face get tan but the rest of their bodies are white. That is for sure the case with Emery. She also has a body just like Mia. She is super skinny with no body fat. She also has Mongolian spots on her butt just like Mia. We are guessing, based on the scale in our room that she weighs about 19 pounds. She fits into the 6 to 12 month clothes I brought but the pants she is wearing today are 12-18 months and they are huge so I had to take about 2 inches in on the waist (I brought a needle and thread for this purpose knowing she would be skinny).
Anyway, it has been fun getting to know Emery's cute little personality. These pictures show a bit of her personality and the video shows her running around. Enjoy and I will post more tomorrow!!!

ReplyDeleteI have followed your blog off and on- I just checked in and just want to say congrats!!! She is gorg! The post that you wrote a couple days ago really hit home for me. I have 4 kids (3 bio boys, one adopted girl). I think about adding one more little girl all the time. But then I freak about having 5. My oldest turns 15 tomorrow. I so know how you feel. Yet I would love for my daughter to have a sister. Especially an adopted sister.
ReplyDeleteAnyway- your girls are adorable!!!
Congratulations Christy and Kevin!! Emery is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! I hope the transition continues to go well.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. Emery is just beautiful! Her personality reminds me of Liliah. She was easy going and made it easy on her first time parents. It was like a second honeymoon for us with her in China. Enjoy and have a wonderful time getting to know her.
